Brycinus imberi

Brycinus imberi lives in small schools in the shallow waters of sheltered, muddy bays. They can be found not only in Lake Malawi but also throughout the whole southeastern part of Africa.

The females of this species become bigger than the males and grow to about 13 cm while the males become not bigger than 11 cm. They are omnivores and they will be very easy to keep in an aquarium provided that they, of course, are offered for sale. As far as we know this species is so far not yet exported from Malawi for aquarium lovers. This example is caught in Tanzania for scientific purposes at the University of Antwerp.
